Just FYI - I am trying to install a mouse and printer which I am able to see on other bluetooth devices. Jan 10, 2013 I am passing my computer on to a family member and wanted to give them a fresh install, so I used the Windows Vista (32-bit SP1) disc that came with the laptop and reinstalled Vista on the computer. Everything worked fine until I wanted to connect to the internet, then Windows said that there were no networks available. When I selected 'Why can't windows find any networks' it said that 'This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured'. I put in the Dell Driver's and Utilities CD that came with the computer and installed the drivers that seemed related to networks or communications, but the problem persists. I'm assuming it is some sort of driver issue (as the computer was using wireless internet before the reformat (just hours ago) and so the device itself seems to be working.

XPS M1710 [ ] The XPS M1710 was announced on April 18, 2006 as a higher-end 17-inch widescreen XPS available in black or red. The system was marketed to gamers, sharing a chassis design and many components with the lower end Inspiron E1705/9400 and the higher end Precision M90. The base design featured an Intel processor, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GS or, 7200 RPM SATA hard drive, DDR2 SDRAM, a magnesium alloy case with user configurable multicolor LED lighting in the touchpad, fans, speakers and lid, access to an 'exclusive' XPS-branded segment of DELL's business support division, and was built on the Precision M90's D-Dock motherboard.
Except the wireless. I'm running Windows 7 64Bit, for your reference. I went to the Dell driver site, and ignorant, originally downloaded everything that seemed to be relevant concerning the networking drivers. When that didn't work, I came upon an article that gave the correct order of driver installations. I re-installed in that order, albeit using the download manager. I've run Dell Diagnostics, and the only problem it sees is USB status (but USB is working great. I've printed and access my external hd without problem).
The only workaround seems to be not to use Vista ( I can change it in XP and others have reported no problems changing it in Linux Ubuntu ) or to get another wireless card or get your MAC address added to the filter (I will probably get this done). I was hoping someone might have found a driver version that would allow this. I have tried installing generic Broadcom wireless drivers and even drivers from HP that use Broadcom cards. None have worked so far.
One small complaint about the stellar: The stock wireless card sucks. To be more precise, many users have a hard time finding bars when not located directly next to a wireless router. While this might not be such a big deal at home, you can't exactly move your desk at work or your seat at college. Other XPS 13 users who installed a Linux-based OS discovered that the stock wireless card didn't want to play nicely with their new install.
